Our Themes

Our education portfolio is diverse, covering the spaces of education attainment and right to education, education for life and livelihoods, education governance and management, ICT, and innovations in education. We have worked across the entire cycle of early child-care, pre-primary, primary, secondary, supplementary, vocational, life-skills education, and workplace advancement.

We conducted impact evaluations to provide evidence for decision making on scale and investment of education initiatives such as the Prajayatna and Nali Kali government projects in Karnataka, and Pratham-Vodafone’s ICT in education in urban and rural sites across their programme locations in India.


Pre-primary school participation, Gross enrolment ratio in India. As per the studies, among rural children of age 10, half could not read at a basic level, despite the high overall enrollment rate for primary education.


We have conducted large scale concurrent evaluations, summative assessments, monitoring and action research. CMS led the impact evaluation of the Nali-Kali programme for government of Karnataka to understand the learning outcomes of the activity based learning programme. We anchored and supported implementation of the Centre for Education (CEI), for Results for Development (R4D) in India. These are just few examples of the vast work we have done in education in last two decades.

We have also evaluated several early childhood programmes, and have assessed performances of residential schools for girls, and teachers’ absenteeism, etc. Our hosting of the Centre for Education Innovations India hub gave us a 360 degree insight into innovative education initiatives. Through our engagement with the interesting projects of Agastya and Pratham Books, we have assessed curiosity of students for science and engagement of students with story books.
