We envision technology as a force multiplier and paradigm changer for social impact. We specialise in analysing, designing and applying technologies that work for all, especially the poorest and the marginalised. Our expertise stems from our significant experience in field labs, a multi-disciplinary team and partnerships.

DICEFlow (2018)

We developed an Outreach-as-a-solution(OaaS) called DICEFlow, a mobile and web solution that enables continuous and deep community engagement. DICEFlow has been instrumental in delivering key wellness and social protection-based benefits to the poor in Swasti’s Invest4Wellness (i4we) programme.

Taaras (2015 – ongoing)

We pioneered a web and mobile application that simplifies the work being done at the field level and enables better information and service delivery for The Avahan programme, being run in five Indian states.
The Platform is currently being used by more than 400 field workers with live real-time data.

Monitoring Platform for National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Nigeria (NDLEA) (2015 – 16)

We designed a platform and an app that can help monitor all the activities of more than 30 different agencies working with each other across Nigeria. The system enables work plan and milestone tracking at multiple levels.

Simplified Micro Credit Accounting System (2002 – 03)

We created the Simplified Micro-credit accounting system for a project done for the women SHGs built and supported by IFFDC (Indian Farm Forestry Development Cooperative). The tool reduced the need for repeated manual data entry across multiple data registers/books through automated excel-based computations and consolidated data dashboards.

WaSH Assessment System for Hospitals (2016)

Access to real-time data for healthcare facilities and higher administration can help them combat issues like poor Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, which lead to poor treatment outcomes and eventually death. We designed an assessment tool for health facilities. The tool comprises an app that medical officers and hospital superintendents fill in for their facilities. The report is aggregated at the block/district level with further cumulation at the state and national level. Dashboards at various levels help in instant data-driven decision making.

Community Engagement

The Community Engagement team works with the objective of enabling social development partners to understand and access local communities so they are able to make impactful decisions and deliver services efficiently and effectively.

Their strength lies in their ability to understand and access communities in different settings within the local ecosystem. This approach is key to decisions, interventions, and services because the duration and speed of optimal community engagements vary widely based on the needs of stakeholders; and appropriate community engagement is a strategic piece in impact which cannot be done by tactical teams contracted on a short-term basis.

The team uses technology (like CommCare, ODK and SurveyCTO, Survey Solutions) to get error-free information.

The team takes pride in having the:

  • Highest in People diversity, Geographical diversity, Data diversity and Domain knowledge.

  • Rigorous Data Quality Assurance and Control Packs

  • Pan India presence with more than 1500 network associates

  • Master Trainers with multiple languages and adult training skills

  • Geographical location covered through project engagement – Pan India, Nepal, Srilanka, Bangladesh, Kenya, Turkey, Jordan and Cambodia.

Education

Our education portfolio is diverse, covering the right to education, education for livelihoods, education governance, ICT (Information, Communication, Technology) and innovations in education. We have worked across the entire cycle of learning, from early child-care, school education, supplementary and vocational training, life-skills education and workplace advancement.

We have conducted impact evaluations to provide evidence for decision-making on scale and for investment in education initiatives such as the Prajayatna and Nali Kali government projects in Karnataka, and Pratham-Vodafone’s ICT initiatives in urban and rural sites across their programme locations in India.

We anchored and supported the implementation of the Centre for Education (CEI) and Results for Development (R4D) in India. We have also evaluated several early childhood programmes. Through projects for Agastya and Pratham Books, we have assessed the curiosity of students for science and their association with story books.

Gender & Equity

Gender has been the cross-cutting theme of many of our research, review and evaluation studies in the areas of poverty, financial inclusion, social protection, livelihoods and governance.

We have adopted various gender frameworks, such as the World Bank’s agency opportunity framework and the women’s empowerment in agriculture index of IFPRI.

We contributed to developing an innovative reporting module on a mobile application that helps track the escalating experience of gender-based violence (GBV), focusing on the prevention and mitigation of violence.

We also quality assured the DOT tool developed for use in factories, where the workforce is often not literate. The DOT tool utilises a survey, using dots to capture responses about the work environment, where the colours of the dots indicate the level of action required to prevent GBV.
